NATIONAL CENTER FOR SAFETY INITIATIVES

Creating a better, safer tomorrow

We support youth-centered organizations and safeguard communities by offering in-depth background checks and comprehensive safety services.

For more than 15 years, we have led the youth sports safety movement by advocating for safer communities and advancing safety policy through influence and education.

An NBC Sports Next company

We’re a member of the NBC Sports Next family of software and apps serving youth and amateur sports. Together, we’re on a mission to help ensure athlete safety on and off the field, increase access to sports, and simplify the lives of parents, coaches, and administrators. We provide sports teams, clubs, leagues, and national governing bodies access to a single source for league management, staff eligibility, and safety resources to ensure coaches and volunteers are properly screened and trained to interact with youth athletes.

Even with our connection to NBC Sports Next, we remain an independently operated company to ensure data privacy and security. Whether or not your organization is involved with sports, NCSI can help.

Meet our founder

Trish Sylvia’s passion for child safety helped her identify gaps in the traditional methods utilized for background checks and develop NCSI into an industry leader. In her current role as VP of Advocacy & Engagement for NBC Sports Next, she pushes for change as an advocate for a holistic approach to safety in youth sports.

Living our values

Our Better Together Initiative was born from the belief that children should have access to youth sports programs in their communities regardless of where they live, and that every athlete deserves to be surrounded by trained coaches and volunteers who provide positive and safe experiences.

As part of Better Together, our parent organization provides grants to local and national youth sports organizations that are committed to helping underserved communities and communities of color to receive no-cost access to its software platforms, or reduced background screening costs. Interested organizations are encouraged to apply for a software grant through SportsEngine's website.
